The OECD Crete Centre Forum on Population Dynamics returns for its third annual conference.

The event, titled “Demography driven resilient societies: sustainable growth, social and territorial cohesion,” will take place in Chania, Crete, on November 9-10, 2026.

The demographic transition has wide-ranging ramifications for economies and societies, as population ageing, shifting fertility patterns, increasing longevity, and uneven regional population dynamics interact in complex ways. These trends reshape labour markets by influencing workforce size and productivity. They also contribute to evolving intergenerational inequalities in income, wealth, and opportunities, while placing increasing pressure on housing systems and amplifying spatial disparities.

Bringing these perspectives together, the conference provides a unique platform for politicians, policymakers, academics, and international experts to exchange insights and reflect on comprehensive policy responses. This year’s sessions will focus on navigating the birth deficit, tackling labor shortages alongside productivity challenges, managing migration policies in ageing societies, and addressing the impact of population ageing on housing markets.

The conference is organized by the OECD Crete Centre on Population Dynamics in collaboration with the Delphi Economic Forum and the Municipality of Chania.
