Angela D’Elia is Head of the Unit in charge of analysing the sustainability of public finance and public expenditure trends at the European Commission.

Mrs D’Elia oversees economic analysis and assessment of the sustainability of public finances in relation to short, medium and long-term fiscal risks. This includes assessing the economic and budgetary impact of ageing populations, notably related to pension and healthcare systems, and contributing to the development of the framework for economic and budgetary surveillance.

Prior to this position, Mrs D’Elia has contributed to the design, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of policies aimed at facilitating economic recovery and enhancing resilience in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, under Next Generation EU.

Mrs D’Elia has more than 20 year professional experience in different policy and analytical fields (ranging from fiscal surveillance to the deployment of Recovery and Resilience Facility, from econometric analysis to policy advice), acquired in different sectors: research and academia, banking, and for more than 15 years, EU institutions. She served as Policy Assistant to the Director General of the Economic and Financial Affairs DG at the European Commission (2016-2019) and as Policy Coordinator (2019-2020) in the Cabinet of the Commissioner for Economy, P. Gentiloni.

Mrs D’Elia is Italian, and she holds a PhD from the University of Florence.
